This Hydor Rotating Flo Deflector is an add-on for powerheads. You plug it in to the output of the powerhead and it rotates from the force of the water flowing through it. Are you tired of having 4 or 5 powerheads in your tank trying to reproduce turbulent reef type water conditions? If so, and you’re financially challenged (as we are) then these rotating devices might be a good option for your reef tank setup.

Hydor Flo Rotating Deflector Rotating Wavemaker for Powerheads

Product Info:

  • Can transform a regular powerhead into a wavemaker
  • Plugs into the output nozzle on the powerhead and rotates from the water flowing through it
  • Minimum Flow Rate: 80 gph (300 lph)
  • Maximum Flow Rate: 310 gph (1200 lph)
  • Relatively inexpensive option to get turbulent water conditions in reef type tanks
  • Can help promote gas exchange and increase dissolved oxygen levels by providing surface agitation as it rotates.
  • Comes with 4 different sized adapters for the various powerhead output diameters.

Submerged powerheads can add heat to an aquarium. Having too many in your tank can lead to temperature problems, especially if you’re already running high output aquarium lighting. These can help because you could potentially upgrade your powerheads (higher output) and only use, say two powerheads along with these attachments, to replace the four straight flow power heads you were previously using.Take note that these devices do lower the flow rate out of the powerhead and they should be cleaned regularly. When you’re doing your weekly water changes you can simply pop these off and give them a good rinse and scrub in fresh water.

Fortunately there are several options for those wanting to create waves in the aquarium. These rotating deflectors are one of the least expensive for getting that wave type action into your tank.
